The Board of Fire & Police Commission for The Village of Romeoville, Illinois, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lateral Transfer Police Officer, without regard to race, color, creed, gender or ethnic origin, to establish an eligibility registry for current and future openings in the Romeoville Police Department. Officers transferring in shall start at a step equal to the number of full years of prior creditable service, but no higher than eight (8) years for in terms of wages and leave benefits.
- State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement training Board as a law enforcement officer
- Minimum of two years of experience as a full-0time sworn law enforcement officer of a municipal police department, a County Sheriff's department or the Illinois State Police
- Employed for one year since completion of a probationary period
- Current in good standing in the police department in which the lateral transfer applicant presently services
- Such knowledge, skills abilities and level of experience as required by the call for later transfer applicants
- Much be a citizen of the United States
- Graduate from high school or equivalent thereof
- Be at least 23 years of age at time of hire, per ILCS Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioner's Act
- Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application and date of hire
- Medical Insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield)
- 23 hours of personal time annually
- Two weeks' vacation after one year; three weeks after five years; four weeks after ten years; five weeks after 15 years; six weeks after 20 years, includes prior service years
- Sick Time: 96 hours, accumulative annually; 144 hours annually at 15 years; 192 hours annually at 20 years
- Longevity stipend each year after 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service
- Annual salary ranges (without degree or military service) from $81,959 up to $110,065 depending on years of service
- Annual salary with degree or military service from $89,188 up to $118, 232 depending on years of service
- Advance opportunities within 14 different specialized units
The current eligibility list for Entry Level Police Officers expires March 12, 2026 and Lateral Transfers expires January 17, 2026.
