The Romeoville Police Department offers several classes free of charge, that are designed to teach and promote safety to our local youth. For information on Safety Town or to request a class listed below, please call the Romeoville Community Oriented Policing Department at 815-886-7215.
CLASSES OFFERED
The following classes are offered, free of charge, to promote safety with several different topics:
• 911 Safety — Teaches children how to call for help during an emergency by using the 911 system safely and responsibly.
• Bicycle Safety — This class not only covers how to operate a bicycle safely in traffic, but also shows students the importance of checking equipment prior to riding.
• Internet Safety — Students learn not to give out personal information or pictures to anyone on the internet without the approval of their parents. Students are also taught to not respond to emails that make them uncomfortable. Parents will also be offered advice on how to keep their children safe while using the internet.
• Pedestrian Safety — Students learn the responsibilities of being a pedestrian in accordance with traffic laws and get the opportunity to put them into action in a practical exercise.
• Personal Safety — This class is recommended to kids ages 3-7 and is a modified version of “Stranger Danger” which teaches children the importance of checking with adults before going anywhere with anyone.
SAFETY TOWN GUIDELINES
Below are a few things to keep in mind when calling to schedule a class at Safety Town:
• Keep groups to no less than 6 students and no more than 60 students.
• Supply an adequate number of chaperones depending on group size.
• Keep groups to roughly the same age.
