Computer Class: Microsoft Excel Graphs & Pivot Tables

In this introductory class, you will learn how to take your Excel skills to the next level by easily creating graphs with the information in your spreadsheets, as well as using pivot tables to quickly organize your data. This class requires basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Excel. It is highly recommended that attendees have taken our Excel Basics class, but it is not required. ISLE A LA CACHE MUSEUM PRESENTS TRAVEL TALES OUTDOOR TRAIL EXHIBIT
Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. Romeo Rd.
Fee: Free! Age: All ages.
This ongoing program runs from Thursday, June 1, to Thursday, Aug. 31. Preserve hours are 8 a.m. to sunset daily. Isle a la Cache Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. 

Humans aren’t the only creatures that travel. Animals are also on the move! Whether on short errands or long migrations, animals along our rivers are on their own journeys. Come out to Isle a la Cache Museum to see the outdoor exhibit “Travel Tales.” Walk the interpretive trail along the Des Plaines River to discover the treks – some daily and others yearly – of several local animals.

Visitors are also invited to join us at the Discovery Isle drop-in programs taking place from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays from June 14 through Aug. 2. Each week we’ll be taking a closer look at one of the animals highlighted in the “Travel Tales” exhibit. This family-friendly, outdoor interpretive trail exhibit was developed by museum staff, with the support of The Nature Foundation of Will County.

White Oak Library presents After-Hours Laser Tag for ages 8-12

Join us for after hours laser tag! Wear a fun neon or white shirt so you can be sure to glow underneath the blacklights. Ages 8-12. Parents must be present. Please be at the library by 4:45pm since the library will close to other patrons at 5pm. PARENTS MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT. Only children 8-12 will be allowed in the building. There’s a great, big world out there, but what’s underneath? From tiny organisms and mysterious creatures to covert ecosystems, discover the hidden life we usually ignore in this summer series. Join for one program or come to all four, each held at a different visitor center throughout the Forest Preserve. Peek under bark in the first program, investigating the layers of a tree and the critters that call trees home. Start inside the museum for a discussion of what we are looking for, then hike outside to explore Underneath: The Bark firsthand with bark dissections.

Celebrate all things summer on the longest day of the year! Guests are invited to enjoy the preserve during evening hours, hike the shoreline trail, relax by the bonfire and explore the outdoor summer exhibit. Every half hour, an interpretive naturalist will give a five-minute talk on the traditions of the solstice, local pollinators, a brief history of the island and animals found in the preserve. In honor of Pollinator Week, guests are invited to enjoy a light picnic with foods that wouldn’t grow without the work of pollinators! O'Hara Woods Volunteer Workday

We plan to continue removing brush from the woodland edge to open the view and improve conditions for our native plants. We would love to see you out there! No prior experience is required. The address to O'Hara Woods is 524 Belmont Dr., Romeoville, and we will be meeting in the parking lot off of Beverly J Griffin Dr. (to the southwest of Lake Strini). If you plan to attend, please bring a water bottle, a pair of work gloves (we will have extra), and dress for the weather. Loppers and all other equipment will be provided. This year’s global theme is “Pollinators and Climate Change.” Learn about the insects and animals that perform the important task of pollinating plants, especially those that provide us with much of the food we eat. See live bats and learn about their roles in pollination from our friends at Incredible Bats. Watch the stunning documentary “The Guardians,” which “elegantly interweaves the lives of the iconic monarch butterfly with an indigenous community in Mexico” that shifted gears to protect monarch habitat. Find out how to support pollinators at home with insect hotels, gardens and plants native to our region. Try your hand at exciting pollination challenges and activities. Grab a net and magnifying glass, because there are crayfish and other critters to discover in our river! Join us anytime from 1 to 3 p.m. to see what lives in and around the Des Plaines River at Isle a la Cache preserve. We will use nets to scoop for aquatic critters and then take a closer look at them. Equipment will be provided, however feel free to bring your own personal equipment. All animals will be released back into the river at the end of the program. This is a drop-in program; come any time between 1 and 3 p.m. No registration required.
