Will County and Lewis University have partnered to offer the 7th annual Will County collection of pumpkins for recycling. From 9am to Noon on Saturday, Nov. 5, students, parents, and residents are encouraged to bring their pumpkins and gourds! Lewis Physics Club will be operating Catapults! The Farm Bureau and Unv of IL Ext office will be offering composting info and Document Destruction service will also be offered. Electronics recycling will also be offered. Isle a la Cache Museum presents Winged Souls and Milkweed

FREE. Age: Ages 10 and older. (Ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.)
What do Día de los Meurtos, monarch butterflies and milkweed have in common? Plenty! Monarchs are flocking back to their overwintering sites in Mexico at the beginning of November, just in time for the Mesoamerican holiday. Legend has it that the butterflies are the returning souls of loved ones from the past. Back here in Will County, early November is the perfect time to harvest and plant the monarch’s food – milkweed.Join us as we learn the basics of the recent Day of the Dead holiday, then go outside to gather and prepare milkweed seeds for the Forest Preserve. White Oak Library presents Books & Beer : "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Join us at the Romeoville Branch Library on the second Tuesday evening of each month for a lively book discussion, beer/wine/pop and some snacks. This month's book is Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Moreno-Garcia offers a terrifying twist on classic gothic horror, set in 1950s Mexico. This book will be available one month prior to the discussion and can be picked up at the Romeoville Branch Library's Adult Services Desk and will be due back one week after the book club date. Isle a la Cache Museum presents Crafting a la Cache: Knit a Toque!

The voyageurs called them toques; today we call them beanies. Whatever the name, a knit wool cap is iconic and essential for winter weather! Join a naturalist for beginner-friendly instruction on how to finger knit your own winter beanie, and learn about the voyageurs and 18th-century headwear while you craft. Come out to Isle a la Cache to learn about wild turkeys. Join us inside the museum, where a naturalist will be stationed to share amazing facts about our feathered friend. Then sit down at the craft table to make your own turkey to take home. Complete your day by venturing outside to do a turkey-themed scavenger hunt. This is a drop-in program; come any time between 1 and 3 p.m. No registration required.

Hear history go boom as you learn about weaponry of the 18th century. Live demonstrations of various weapons will occur throughout the event. During Living History Encounters, you may find cooks, seamstresses, voyageurs, soldiers or craftsmen sharing their talents. This is a drop-in program; visit anytime between noon and 3 p.m. Depending on the weather, this program is offered indoors or outdoors. No registration required.

White Oak Library presents Music Concert & Fundraiser: The American Folk Song with Mark Dvorak

Celebrate the season of giving and join our folk music & fundraising event featuring troubadour, Mark Dvorak. Learn stories of the roots of American music and listen to Mark perform the music of American folk artists such as Lead Belly, Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. The library is collaborating with Music & Potlucks, a local organization dedicated to nourishing the community with cultural events and supporting our neighbors. Alongside of this FREE music event is an optional "dessert potluck," and an optional fundraiser to support the mission of West Suburban Community Pantry. Please consider bringing the following donated goods to the music event, or drop off in advance in our designated lobby box beginning Monday, October 24th. The most needed items are New Toys & Books (ages 0-12), Boxed or Canned Food Items, and Baby Diapers and Wipes.Also, please consider bringing an unopened store bought treat of your choice to share with fellow community members for the Potluck portion of the music event.
