Tonight, the Village Board passed a balanced 2021-2022 budget for the Village of Romeoville, which is 12% lower than the previous year. The budget also sees the village property tax rate decrease for the 6th year in a row. The average homeowner can expect to pay the roughly same in village taxes this year as they did in the previous year, depending on their assessed value. Approximately 10-12% of a resident’s entire property tax bill goes to the village.
“Despite the recent year of challenges, we expect to end fiscal year 2020-21 without major financial impacts,” said Mayor Noak. “The proposed budget continues the village’s commitments by efficiently allocating resources to public safety, investment in infrastructure, community development, and enhancing the lives of Romeoville residents.”
Capital projects are the core of the budget with over $48 million for 121 projects including street resurfacing, pedestrian crossings at Route 53, new street lighting, and storm sewer lining. Other major projects outlined in the budget include construction of the Aquatic Center on Townhall Drive, the southern extension of Pinnacle Drive, an Ion Exchange Plant at Well #14, repairs to the 135th Street bridge, and construction of a new frontage road off Weber that will wrap around the former Discount Tire to connect to the businesses in that area. In addition, Meadowalk Park will be renovated and open recreation space and a dog park will be constructed on the diocese property along 135th Street.
