[ARCHIVED] Romeoville Announces First Annual Holiday Lights Festival

Hldy Lghts

The Romeoville Village Board has announced a plan for the first annual Romeoville Holiday Lights Festival. The grounds of village hall and the police department will be decked out and twinkling along Grand Boulevard and four nights of photos with Santa will be held at Deer Crossing Park (just behind village hall).

“The area around village hall is perfect for a festival of this kind,” explained Mayor John Noak. “After the challenges this year has brought, we thought the community would appreciate an uplifting holiday display.”

Things will kick off with a tree lighting event on December 4th from 5-8 p.m. and will feature Santa Clause arriving on a fire truck. There will be a variety of light displays, ranging from snowflakes and gift packages to a new 24 foot tree, a gingerbread man, and a carousel. Since the lights will be along Grand Boulevard, it will make for a holiday display that is easy to view from the confines of your car. For those who get out and walk, there will be a 14.5 foot light up ornament that visitors can stand beneath for a fantastic photo opportunity.

In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, three other nights with Santa will be held at Deer Crossing Park (just behind village hall) on December 5, 11, and 12. There will be concessions and socially distanced photos with Santa, details of which will be released at a later date. All four event dates are being built around social distancing and maintaining the ability of the community to safely participate in a fun and engaging winter event.

People will still be able to come see the lights even on days that Santa will not be in attendance. The Romeoville Holiday Light Festival promises to be a new and exciting celebration at the end of the calendar year.
