[ARCHIVED] Lewis University Airport Named 2018 Illinois Reliever Airport of the Year

Airport

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics has chosen the Lewis University Airport as their 2018 Illinois Reliever Airport of the Year. The special recognition is based on the airport’s safety record, cooperation and coordination with IDOT, service provided to the local community, and general maintenance of the facility.

The airport received even more good news this month when they learned Congressman Dan Lipinski’s amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 passed the House of Representatives. The amendment would allow smaller airports like Lewis to apply for grants from the Small Airport Fund to construct air traffic control towers.

“The Lewis University Airport is a wonderful resource here in Romeoville,” said Mayor John Noak. “We’re thrilled to see them be recognized for their excellence and are very excited to be one step closer to bringing a tower to their facility, which has been a priority of theirs.”

Lewis University Airport is publically owned and operated by the Joliet Regional Port District. It provides facilities for basic aircraft to Boeing Business class. All aviation services that fit the needs of corporate flight departments and private aircraft owners are available.
