[ARCHIVED] Nature Proclamations Kick-Off Spring in Romeoville

At the last Village Board Meeting, the Village of Romeoville started the spring season with a commitment to the environment with two proclamations centering on the nature around us.

Mayor Noak proclaimed April 26 to be Arbor Day in the Village of Romeoville. Arbor Day is the long celebrated holiday that puts trees in the spotlight. Romeoville has been named a Tree City USA for three years running thanks to efforts in ensuring effective urban forest management through a variety of tasks and goals. If residents would like to get involved in making their neighborhoods a bit greener, they can explore the Parkway Tree Replacement Program on romeoville.org.

Mayor Noak also proclaimed May 18 to be Mayors’ Monarch Pledge Day, which encourages residents to participate in the conservation efforts of the monarch butterfly. Every resident can make a difference for the monarch by planting native milkweed and nectar plants. This gives butterflies and other pollinators a habitat. A perfect place to get these plants will be at the Nature Foundation of Will County native plant sale at Isle a la Cache (501 E. Romeo Rd) on May 18 from 9 am – 2 pm and May 19 from 9 am to noon. Experts will be on hand to help you pick out the perfect plants for you and to answer any questions.

“Romeoville is lucky to have some incredible nature sites like Lake Strini, O’Hara Woods, and the preserve at Isle a la Cache, but we can also cultivate great places of nature around our homes and businesses,” said Mayor Noak. “Through the use of native plants, rain barrels, planting pollinator gardens and so much more, we as individuals and as a community can be efficient and a friend of nature.”

In addition to these proclamations, the Village’s Conservation and Sustainability Commission is providing assistance and guidance to the Village in promoting conservation, environmental stewardship, and sustainability for the benefit of current and future generations of residents. More information regarding these programs and how residents can help will be out soon.
