Romeoville Increases Park Amenities

JJC Practice Fields
JJC Practice Fields

Romeoville continues to be known for its outstanding recreational opportunities. At their last meeting, Romeoville Officials gave approval on three projects to accommodate the increased participation in our youth athletic programs and event attendance.

Contracts were awarded to begin the construction of new practice fields to accommodate a variety of sports including soccer, football, lacrosse, and more. The new fields will be located on over seven acres adjacent to Joliet Junior College on Romeo Road. In addition, approval was granted to add more amenities to Discovery Park. Original bids came in lower than expected, which allowed for more parking, bicycle racks and lighting for two fields to be added to the project.

"We continue to see an increase in our youth athletic programs. Teams are always looking for field time and, by adding the fields near JJC and the lighting to Discover Park, we can accommodate more teams and more sports," said Mayor John Noak.

Discovery Park construction is currently underway, which will include five athletic fields, three half basketball courts, two sand volleyball courts, two sets of beanbag toss games, and a trail system. Once completed, the two sites will add over 30 acres of recreation space for youth athletics.

Approval was also given to begin the construction of the restroom/concession stand facility for the Deer Crossing Park Amphitheatre.

Construction on all three projects will be underway this summer. For a full list of parks and amenities please visit Romeoville.org
