Romeoville Police Active Investigation

5:50 PM UPDATE

Officer Dominic Thielmann, a six-year Police Officer with the Romeoville Police Department, has been listed in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center. Officer Thielmann is currently assigned to the Investigation’s Unit as a Tactical Officer.

The suspect, Samer Hernandez (age 29), has been charged with armed robbery stemming the stolen vehicle incident that occurred on May 20th in Romeoville. The bond has been set at $5,000,000 (10% does not apply). He has been transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Charges for the attempted murder of Officer Thielmann are pending the completion of the investigation by the Will County Major Crimes Task Force.

The Romeoville Police Department would like to express sincere gratitude to those who have showed their support for Officer Thielmann and his family.

6:30 AM UPDATE


At approximately 5:45 am, Romeoville Police apprehended Samer Hernandez, age 29, the suspect in this morning’s incident. The shelter in place order for residents in the area of Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive has been lifted. The investigation is ongoing.

There is currently no update on the condition of the Romeoville officer who was shot in the shoulder. He is at Loyola University Medical Center.

3:49 AM UPDATE

The Romeoville Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive at approximately 12:13 am. 

Officers located a vehicle previously reported stolen in the community. Officers were surveilling the vehicle and, as they approached, the suspect fled on foot. A foot pursuit took place and officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect. A Romeoville Officer was hit in the right shoulder. He was initially transported to Bolingbrook Hospital and was then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center. 

The suspect is a male Hispanic in his late 20s with a shaved head and facial tattoo. He is approximately 5’6” weighing 185 lbs. At this time, police are advising residents in the area of Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive to shelter in place. The investigation is ongoing. If the public sees anything, please call 911.

Romeoville Police are currently investigating a shooting near the intersection of Sierra Trail and Summerfield Drive. The incident occurred while officers were investigating a stolen vehicle. As police officers approached the vehicle, the suspect fled the vehicle.  As the foot pursuit began, one officer was shot. The officer has been transported to Bolingbrook Hospital and their condition is not known at this time. Please avoid the area.
