Arbor Day Foundation Names Village of Romeoville Tree City USA

Tr

The Village of Romeoville was named a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.

The village achieved the recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“We are always looking to keep Romeoville beautiful,” stated Mayor Noak. “Trees are a major element in that strategy and we are glad to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for our efforts.”

The village plants about 150 trees a year, including reimbursing a portion of the cost for residents to replace sick or damaged trees on parkways. In addition, public works employees are trained on the proper way to prune trees to promote growth that will not conflict with pedestrian and traffic flow.
