Step inside our 18th-century Fur Traders Cabin that complements the exhibits at Isle a la Cache Museum. See the many goods that French fur traders brought from New France. Learn about the furs and other items used as money during trades. A naturalist will be inside to answer questions.
This is a drop-in program; come anytime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. No registration is required for this program.

What is green and yellow, has a hard shell and looks awesome? The Blanding’s turtles of Isle a la Cache! Meet one of our ambassador turtles – Taco, H3 and Shirlee – up close as a naturalist will bring out a turtle from the exhibit tank for closer viewing. Learn the story of their journey and all about Blanding’s turtles.
Two sessions will be offered:
Session 1: 10 to 11 a.m.
Session 2: 1 to 2 p.m.

In honor of National Catfish Day, come on out to Isle a la Cache and spend some time dip netting in the Des Plaines River. See what underwater wildlife you can catch, like dragonfly nymphs, crayfish, tadpoles and perhaps even a catfish! Find out what makes a catfish a catfish and learn about the ones that call Will County home.

Drop by to learn about American Indian longhouses, one of several types of dwellings used by the Potawatomi. Our longhouse will be open for viewing. Learn about the daily lives of the Potawatomi and discover how longhouses are built and used by Native peoples.

Come join The Conservation Foundation and the Friends of O’Hara Woods improve the ecological health of O’Hara Woods at our monthly volunteer workday.
Activities include cutting invasive brush, burning brush piles, pulling garlic mustard, and collecting seed from native plants. No prior experience is necessary.
The address to O’Hara Woods is 524 Belmont Dr., Romeoville, and we will be meeting in the parking lot off of Beverly J. Griffin Dr. (to the southwest of Lake Strini). If you plan to attend, please bring a water bottle, a pair of work gloves (we will have extra), and dress for the weather. Loppers and all other equipment will be provided.
*We will be following Phase 4 guildelines per Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and participants should practice social distancing.
