[ARCHIVED] October 2017 is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Citizens Against Abuse

Residents are encouraged to gather for the Citizens Against Abuse rally and march on Thursday, October 12. The event will be held at DuPage Township Levy Center (251 Canterbury Lane) in Bolingbrook from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The demonstration will show concern for victims of violence and raise awareness to prevent future acts of violence.

“Citizens Against Abuse”

October 12, 2017


WHEREAS, victims of domestic violence include people of every culture, age, sex, color, nationality, educational, and socio-economic level; and


WHEREAS, almost one third of American women murdered each year are killed by their current or former partners and approximately 1 million women annually report being stalked; and


WHEREAS, children who are subjected to violence too often grow up to inflict violence on others; and


WHEREAS, all persons have a basic right to feel safe from violence, especially in their own home; and


WHEREAS, domestic violence is not a private family matter but a crime, the consequences of which reach with devastating effect on the communities, schools, and workplaces of our nation; and


NOW THEREFORE, I, John Noak, Mayor of the Village of Romeoville do hereby proclaim the month of October, 2017 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, asking citizens to gather for the Citizens Against Abuse rally and march on Thursday, October 12, 2017 with the purpose of demonstrating concern for victims of violence and raising awareness to prevent future acts of violence.
