[ARCHIVED] Storm Information Update: ComEd Sets Up Command Post In Romeoville

Storm Update

Due to the severe thunderstorms that came through the Village of Romeoville on July 23rd, many residents have experienced damage as well as power outages. Below you will find important information regarding outages, home repairs, shelter and more.

Power Outages and Charging Station

ComEd is still reporting nearly 3,000 residents without power. To assist those residents without power, ComEd has set up a storm command post at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center at 55 Phleps Ave. where residents can receive water and ice. In addition, ComEd has set up a charging station for residents to use at this location.

• To report outages or downed wires:

o Text OUT to 26633 (COMED) if you've already subscribed to Outage Alerts.

o Download the free ComEd Mobile App (for iPhone® and Android™® smartphones).

o Log onto the Facebook Outage App.

o Call 1-800-EDISON-1. (During storms call centers may experience high wait times.)

• For Outage Information:

o To stay informed about estimated restoration times, visit ComEd at www.comed.com or click here.

o For updated outage info, check the outage map by clicking here.

Safety is a priority. Never approach a downed power line; always assume a power line is energized and extremely dangerous.

Trees

When removing damaged trees, please use a professional when possible.

Romeoville Public Works crews are continuously driving throughout the community to pick up branches. When possible please keep brush and branches between three and eight feet in length. Brush must be stacked on the parkway in front of the home with the cut ends toward the street. Due to volume, we ask for your patience as crews work diligently to remove debris. This may take several days.

Home Repairs

When making home repairs, please keep in mind that building permits are required for most home improvements to insure that safety and sound construction practices are followed. For a list of licensed contractors, please visit Romeoville.org.  All fees associated with storm repair will be waived.

During these times, we often see numerous contractors soliciting throughout the community.  All solicitors are required to have a permit with them.  A list of permitted solicitors can also be found on the website.

Shelter

Residents in need of shelter can go to the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd., Fire Station #3, 698 Birch Dr. and Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center at 55 Phleps Ave. If shelter is needed after 9:30 p.m. Monday-Friday or after 5:00 p.m. on the weekends, we ask residents to contact the Romeoville Police Department at (815) 886-7219.

For any questions or additional assistance, please contact the Police Department at (815) 886-7219.
