Romeoville is playing host to two huge tournaments: Baylor Basketball and Summer Spectacular softball. Together, the events are anticipated to draw over 3,000 participants and spectators to the area.
Baylor Basketball, the NCAA certified basketball tournament series, returns to Romeoville for six days. The girl’s tournament will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. From there, the boys will take over the courts and play out their tournament on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Teams from Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, and Georgia will be in attendance, in addition to international teams hailing from Canada and the U.K. All games will be played on the courts at the Edward Hospital Athletic & Event Center.
While basketball will be ruling the indoor courts, The Summer Spectacular is currently underway in the fresh air on fields at Village Park and Volunteer Park. The tournament, hosted by Big Bash Sports, has been held in Romeoville for the past four years and brings in teams from Illinois, Indiana, Texas, and Wisconsin. 30 teams from the U10 and U14 age groups are participating.
“These are some of the benefits of having top notch sports facilities,” noted Mayor John Noak. “When we attract these major tournaments, it allows us to showcase our community to visitors and the local businesses benefit as well.”
Tournament organizers keep coming back to Romeoville to host because of the attention to detail and great customer service they experience, not to mention great facilities and a staff that takes pride in their work.
