Come join The Conservation Foundation and the Friends of O’Hara Woods improve the ecological health of O’Hara Woods at our monthly volunteer workday.
Activities include cutting invasive brush, burning brush piles, pulling garlic mustard, and collecting seed from native plants. No prior experience is necessary.
The address to O’Hara Woods is 524 Belmont Dr., Romeoville, and we will be meeting in the parking lot off of Beverly J. Griffin Dr. (to the southwest of Lake Strini). If you plan to attend, please bring a water bottle, a pair of work gloves (we will have extra), and dress for the weather. Loppers and all other equipment will be provided.
*We will be following Phase 4 guildelines per Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and participants should practice social distancing.
The monthly workdays are from 8-11 a.m. on the following Saturdays:
April 24, 2021
"Instead of our normal work day, we are hosting a BioBlitz at O'Hara Woods on Saturday, April 24th from 8-Noon! This event will utilize a free-to-use phone app called iNaturalist to take pictures of any and all life that's out on site, help identify what you've found, and post their locations to a map for other folks to see. We will use the observations you find to help inform how we manage O'Hara Woods in the future. This is a great family friendly project: all you need is a smartphone! Please click here for a guide to the app. It is recommended that you make an account and join the project before coming out on Saturday. This will help streamline the process." - The Conservation Foundation
